William Cooper, DVM

Dr. Cooper is the owner and founder of St. Francis Hospital for Animals. He grew up in the Freedom Park neighborhood of Charlotte. Dr. Cooper has been an animal lover since childhood and recalls his mother telling him he made a “pronouncement” at the age of nine he would be a veterinarian after their cat had kittens in one of his dresser drawers.

Dr. Cooper attended undergraduate school at North Carolina State University graduating cum laude. In 1984, Dr. Cooper received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University receiving distinction as a cum laude graduate. After working for a brief period with a large mixed-animal practice in Florida, Dr. Cooper interned in one of the busiest small animal practices in Chicago with mentor Dr. Lloyd Prasuhn at Lake Shore Animal Hospital. It was here he fine-tuned his surgical skills. In 1996, he returned to Charlotte to fulfill his dream of practice ownership. Dr. Cooper’s interests include orthopedics, endocrinology and regenerative medicine.

Dr. Cooper has been married to his wife Carol for fifteen years. Together they share a love of horses and enjoying trail riding their three horses. When not working, he enjoys playing Frisbee with his dogs and flying small planes especially for Angel Flight (sick children) and Air Ambulance for animals.
